Casey Buchholz

Casey Buchholz, Ph.D. Candidate

Hello! I am Casey, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

I study economic history and political economy. My dissertation engages theoretical and empirical debates on the potential for interracial coalition-building by progressive movements in the United States. I use Texas Greenbackism  an insurgent third-party movement of the post-Reconstruction era   as case study to do so. My dissertation establishes three avenues for future research (i) agricultural change in the postbellum South, (ii) race and social movements in the postbellum South, and (iii) the political economy of race in the cotemporary U.S.

At UMass Amherst, I taught Introduction to Macroeconomics online as the primary instructor and Introduction to Macroeconomics, Introduction to Microeconomics, and Intermediate Microeconomics as a Teaching Assistant.

When I am not researching or teaching, I enjoy outdoor activities, travel, and supporting Liverpool Football Club.
